A successful and international leading ‚knowledge based bio-economy‘ (KBBE) rests on continuously provided knowledge and technologies. Processes of matter formation at plants, animals and micro organisms demand understanding. Basic principles and solutions for efficient systems of production of biomass and bio-based material, food and feed and of succeeding technological procedures have to be compiled. Additionally, tools have to be provided, by which impacts of ‚knowledge based bio-economies‘ on environment, natural systems, agricultural structure and rural areas as well as social systems can be analysed and assessed. The network acts as a platform for scientific activities related to KBBE within an extended German agricultural research. The network is oriented on collaborative research projects, research planning, project attraction as well as by bundling of research capacities and joint use of scientific-technical resources. Supplemented by panels for scientific exchange, the network provides a base for excellent, interdisciplinary and integrative problem driven research.
The cluster acts as a competence network and was established to cover important tasks of the scientific activity related to ‘knowledge based bio-economy’ on the national, EU or international level. The network is open to enlargements and thus invites interested research facilities to collaborate.
The network starts with the 'knowledge based bio-economy'. Future fields will follow.
